Community Involvement

Meridian is committed to making a difference in the world we live in. Through our partnerships with non-profit and community groups, our company and our employees make significant contributions to activities that improve the lives of individuals and communities.

Proud Sponsor of Tour DaVita

2014 marked Meridian’s third and most exciting year involved with Tour DaVita. After sponsoring riders in 2012 and 2013, Meridian sent two riders of its own to experience the Tour first hand this year. Our riders trained hard all season to prepare for the ride of a lifetime and completed over 250 miles each over the course of the three day ride. The experience was one they will never forget, and most importantly, served a meaningful cause.

Tour DaVita is a creative, adventurous, and healthy way to heighten Kidney Disease awareness, and to raise money for DaVita Village Trust. DaVita Village Trust’s goal is to improve community health, wellness, and vitality through providing chronic kidney disease education, prevention, and treatment to patients around the world. The three-day bicycle ride is held in a different part of the country each year, and provides both riders and volunteers an incredible and truly unforgettable experience.

2014 La Clinica de la Raza’s All that Jazz Benefit

La Clinica de la Raza logo

Meridian is proud to participate and donate to this year’s All that Jazz (and Sushi) fundraiser hosted by La Clinica de la Raza. Employees dressed up for a night out on the town to support La Clinica and its commitment to youth empowerment in the Bay Area. This year’s fundraiser raised money for School Based Health Centers where La Clinica is working hard to engage youth in programs and services that positively impact their health.

La Clinica de la Raza provides primary health care, preventative medicine and other services to patients across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano Counties. Their mission is to improve quality of life by providing appropriate, high quality, and accessible health care to the diverse communities they serve.

Meridian’s Brett Neu participated in the 2014 Young Leaders Philanthropy Project organized by Urban Land Institute San Francisco. This year&srquo;s mission involved maintenance and cleanup projects at the Willie Mays Boys and Girls Club at Hunters Point. Way to go Brett!

The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco provide resources for 6 to 18 year olds on Hunters Point Hill, a community that has traditionally lacked services for young people. Urban Land Institute&srquo;s mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and to create and sustain thriving communities throughout the world.

Tour DaVita ORCA Short Track Ride

Tour DaVita logo

Team Meridian geared up and trained hard to participate in the “Tour DaVita ORCA Short Track” ride on May 18th, 2014 in the gorgeous wine country of Napa to support Kidney disease awareness and help raise funds for this great cause. Meridian employees kept a smile on their face while completing either the 30 mile track or strenuous 60 mile track, but let’s not feel bad for them since there was a winery at each rest stop! There were seven Meridian riders and two Meridian volunteers that ensured all the riders were well hydrated and fueled up to make it to the next rest stop.

All proceeds of the ride are going to The Kidney Trust to support local kidney screenings in the community and help raise awareness.

Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano

Each holiday season, amid the year end dash to get projects completed and prep for the New Year, Meridian takes a break to volunteer at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. In 2012, Meridian participated by distributing food to those in need, and in 2013 packed hundreds of boxes filled with yummy pears! Through this facility alone, over 16 million pounds of food is donated annually to families, and 1 in 4 donations provide food for hungry children.

The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano has been serving our local communities for over 35 years. Each month the facility reaches out to approximately 150,000 hungry adults and children. Last year, over 18 million pounds of food was distributed.

National Kidney Foundation

It was a beautiful June day along the San Francisco Embarcadero when Meridian employees put on their walking shoes to be part of the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Walk. 26 million Americans have kidney disease, making it one of the biggest health issues in the US. Through our work developing 10 kidney dialysis medical clinics in California, we know the struggles and challenges people with kidney disease face every day.

Through our volunteer efforts with NKF, we met Donna, an extraordinary woman with an amazing story (see link). Meridian is partnering with NKF in support of Donna and others like her who face enormous challenges as they await a kidney transplant.

For more information on Donna's story check out her YouTube link at http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=sv8dwquNTD0&feature=share&nomobile=1.
